Introduction
Hello and welcome back to The Homesteading Kid. Today I have a cooking blog for you. I am making granola bars and show you how to do so in this blog which includes a step-by-step guide. So, let’s get our hands dirty.
What Ingredients Am I Using
Here is a list of ingredients
- 2 ½ cups Old fashioned rolled Oats
- 1/2 cup Pecans (roughly chopped)
- 1/4 cup Honey
- 1/3 cup Caster Sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 3/4 cup Extras (we used banana chips and dried goji berry)
Tools
You do not need much except a spatula, a square baking tray, a normal baking tray, greaseproof paper, an oven, a saucepan, and a fridge. So now let’s do it.
Method
- Salted Butter (or unsalted butter and a bit of salt)
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and line your normal baking tray with some greaseproof paper
3.Put the oats and pecans on your baking tray and put in the oven until lightly toasted which is about 8-10 minutes
4. While the oats are toasting put the honey, caster sugar, and butter in a saucepan and heat on a medium heat stirring constantly until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved
5. Then put the oats and pecans into a cooking bowl and pour in the butter, sugar and honey mixture in and also at this stage add in the vanilla extract and your added extras (about ¾ of a cup) and stir around
6.Prepare a baking tray you can use the same baking tray as you used for toasting the oats if you like
7. Pour the mixture on to the baking tray and spread around
8. Then take your spatula and press the mixture hard really do it well because this is what makes the bars stick together
9. Then when you have done this put the bars in the fridge for at least 2 hours
10. Then enjoy!
Storing Them
Store them in an airtight container in the fridge
Variations
You can very this basic recipe. For example, you could use almonds or other nuts instead of pecans. Or change the added extras from banana and goji berry to for example peanut butter and chocolate. There is room for experiment! So, tell me about your experience with this recipe and if you have any good variations of this recipe tell me please. So do not forget there is room for experiment!
