Welcome
Hello everyone, and welcome to The Homesteading Kid. Today I am showing you how to make crispy nuts. Crispy nuts are nuts that have been soaked and dried out again either in the oven or dehydrator to make them easier for our bodies to digest and get the nutrients from the nuts. They are very good for snacks, even thinking about them makes me hungry mmm.
Ingredients You Need to Make Crispy Nuts
520g (4 cups) Nuts (we have used pecans, pumpkin seeds, and almonds)
2 teaspoons salt
And some water to soak the nuts in
That is all you need to make crispy nuts, although you will also need an oven or dehydrator to dry the nuts out in.
Method
- Put the nuts and salt in the bowl and put in enough water to cover the nuts by about 2 cm
- Leave to soak overnight for up to 24 hours
- Use a colander to drain and then rinse
- Put the nuts in the dehydrator or on a baking tray if using the oven
- If using the dehydrator set the temperature to about 50 –60 degrees C (if using the oven put it on its lowest temperature setting)
- Leave until crispy. This may take up to 24 hours
- Take out and leave to cool
- Store in an airtight container
- Enjoy
Eating
The easiest part of doing this is eating the nuts they are very yummy just by themselves, they can be put in pack lunches and are generally easy to take out and about because they do not need to be kept cool. Follow this recipe to make your own crispy nuts. I will see you next time JK
